Enough Is Enough ;

"Social norms which encourage violence against women need to be confronted and changed."

The above piece was one published back in November on the 25th of last year,

The International Day For The Elimination of Violence Against Women -

Based on the date of the 1960 murder of the three out of the four Mirabal sisters, who opposed the dictatorship of Trujillo. I remember reading the piece this past November, on the anniversary of this day -

I write this now as March 8th was a day I found myself in an almost state of trance -  thinking about Lucia Perez, thinking about countless women in India that have been targeted , in every country every day , women who make the mistake of trusting the wrong people in their immediate surroundings, or become wrapped up in something pre-meditated-  The 1 in 3 statistic , the people who are no longer around because they have been taken out of it as a direct result of someone being determined to dominate their bodies.

I was able to interact with some women recently of a different generation,  the generation of Grandmothers who have potentially never disclosed their stories of abuse, who have been conditioned growing up in environments discouraged from talking about the pain and trauma they have experienced at the hands of people in close proximity, as well as complete strangers. It is too easy to make generalizations lumping all people together, but that's a dangerous habit, and although they may never in their lifetimes feel safe or empowered to share their stories of what they lived through in earlier years, I know that there are people from every age group that are brave enough to break through that silence.

I don't mean to write that only women and young girls are the ones who are undergoing sexual trauma - I in no way mean to discredit , the stories of those ( often young )  males ,  also often manipulated or traumatized in similar ways , often at the hands of an older individual who wishes to control their bodies and minds alike.  It is publicly known, though it could stand to get more attention, how many young boys are targeted by adults, specifically well to do business folks across the globe , who seem to be encouraged to go through life using and abusing with impunity.

These are things are tend to think about on almost a daily basis. There aren't many people I know in my day to day in person life at the moment who are interested or capable of having conversations regarding this subject matter - Organizing thoughts regarding individuals experiencing trauma inflicted on their bodies and minds in their lifetime often lead to unexpected conversations with strangers which is usually incredibly inspiring.

I hope that people can continue to come together to have conversations about how to change the societal norms in varying parts of the world, continue to work together to raise awareness and teach younger children better about how to treat women and girls, how to respect human life in general, to feel comfortable talking to one another, be it through a screen, a telephone, or in person about how they might feel they identify with their own bodies and the world in which they life. To be able to create, or be a part of communities that promote communication , and healing in a variety of ways.   To respect another' body and mind, not strictly attempt to own someone and call it love. It's encouraging to hear and read and speak with different people from many different backgrounds,  acknowledging that it takes participation from all walks of life, no matter what gender you might indentify with, to actually change the way the world works.

It's too easy to draw parallels between the meat industry, the way the planet has been polluted, human trafficking (child and adult) , child brides, exploitation of indigenous populations and land right's with who knows what minerals underfoot - and different aspects of rape culture that have been allowed to exist for far too long. There is so much more that could be said right now, though the range of emotions being felt at the moment are inspiring me to write a little bit less from my own brain, and just continue to share a few batches of sentences / paragraphs that relate to the above fore mentioned.

The count of girls that have been taken in the recent blaze in Guatemala has risen to 37 - there are a few different speculations relating to some of the details, there are a great number of articles recently read with notes taken- but I don't feel quite right - writing or linking to different subject matter without first finishing this one -
Could be perceived as a bit scattered, so perceive as you will -
May the fallen rest in peace. Internationally,
I hope that we can come to terms with the true legacy of hypocrisy and injustice and work together to create a different world if we are to surpass the ravenous military industrial complex.

"Indigenous victims of sexual slavery during Guatemala's war hope precedent-setting trial will help others get justice."
